Jennifer Fuchs, MSW, LICSW

Head Start Mental Health Coordinator, Duluth Public Schools

Jennifer Fuchs has 22 years experience in human services (17 years as a social worker), including outpatient mental health, school-linked mental health and consultation, home based parent education, and school social work.  Primary population has been early childhood, but she has also spent 7 years in middle school in special education, alternative to suspension, and school-wide SEL programs.  She is a Spanish speaker and spent the early years of my career working with recent arrivals from Central and South America.  She is still called upon to provide extra support for Spanish-speaking students and families in her school community.

Her current role is the Head Start Mental Health Coordinator for Duluth Public Schools, where she supports the entire preschool program of 15 classrooms across 8 elementary buildings.  Preschool mental health services include behavior support planning, behavior data tracking, crisis response, resource and referral, and staff professional development covering behavior, emotional regulation, and trauma.

Finding Your Niche - Thriving in a Host Organization

School social workers have a unique perspective and training background among their colleagues in education. In this workshop, we will unpack the strengths and challenges that accompany our role as sometimes the only social worker in a world full of teachers.  Included in this workshop will be concrete strategies to help you build credibility in your buildings.

 

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define role as host organization employees and identify strengths and challenges within the role,

  2. Identify ethical principles related to working in a host organization,

  3. Identify three strategies to build relationships and credibility within your host organization.
